We motored all night long. Went thru the Gabcikovo lock at 2am. It had a rise of 19.9m or 65.2 ft. !!
Breakfast buffet .. always a lot of fruit and goodies to pick from. This is one of four food locations!
I went up to the deck to watch us motoring north, passing barges along the way.
The next lock on the river was closer to Vienna, the Freudenau lock.
talk about tight fit !!
we had 'plenty' of room ... maybe 8-10 inches on each side .. yikes!
Afterwards, after getting thru the lock, the captain then had to lower the control cabin and the main radar tower so that we could squeeze under three bridges before entering Vienna! with again, 8-10 inches to spare !!
Arrived in Vienna right on time at 2pm. Jan and I joined to tour group that was walking thru 'Imperial Vienna' and the Maria Theresa Christmas Market.
Another GRAND European and very historic city. Nothing that you don't already know! But .. when you're seeing it for the first time .. WOW !!
Enjoy some pics :
St. Stephens Church
Then our group walked over to one of the Christmas Markets.
Then .. the highlight of the day .. we signed up to go back into the center of Vienna to attend a concert! at the Kursalon Musc Hall, built in the 1860's.
What a neat venue. We could not take pics when the musicians were playing, but here's a look from the back, during intermission :
Here's the program:
What a show! The place was full! Soprano and tenor were extraordinary. The two dancers showed grace and elegance in the waltz's.
Piloting that big ship in inches precision! What a treat the music was; I can almost hear the waltzes. Do u need a rest day yet?
